Retail sales in China grow at record pace

Retail sales at China are at peak since 1999. For the first 11 months, retail sales grew by 16.4 per cent to 8.02 trillion yuan. The Chinese Statistics Bureau revealed that the sales in urban areas jumped 19.2 per cent in November from a year earlier, while rural spending climbed 18 per cent.

Amul Innerwear plans to go national

Amul Innerwear is on a national brief. Revealing an aggressive expansion plan, the parent company Kolkata-based JG Hosiery is planning to invest Rs 80 crore in the coming fiscal as it aims at a turnover target of Rs 210 crore in the same period. In the subsequent financial year, the company aims at a turnover of Rs 325 crore.

Fortis Healthworld, a 24-hour healthcare retailer, is set to roll out the first phase of its countrywide expansion plan. The company, promoted by the Ranbaxy Group, plans to set up over 200 health stores in West and South India over the next year. Its long-term plan includes starting over 1,000 stores across 400 cities with an investment of Rs 800 crore, by 2012.
